Packing Lists...HELP PLEASE
I thought that this would be the easy part but I have way too much stuff for just us and one very little baby. So...to all of you who have traveled give me some advice. Give me 5 necessities that you couldn't live with out and 5 things that you could have left at home. A special thanks to Lisa who just returned from Ethiopia with her children. She has given me enough info on our little one to hold me over until November. OK...don't be shy. Leave packing info!!!

5 things I could have left at home: umbrella (we basically had door to door service); every OTC med under the sun: cold, cough, flu, etc; extra reading material for plane (too excited on way there, too tired on way home), too many snacks (you can get things there...we left most of it at HOH), storage/plastic baggies
5 things I couldn't live w/out: bottle brush to clean nipple (used playtex liners for bottles), liquid dish detergent, camera, journal (wish I did more; I slacked off the last few days...it's great to record your thoughts and emotions nightly and look back once you are home..brings back LOTS of memories), my Cipro rx (sick the last 2 days..and then some!!)
things I wished I had packed differently... clothes for me (I was chilly at night), more clothes because of baby projectile vomiting and diarrhea.
things i wished i had packed:scrub brush, shout...i had tide/dreft, but trying to get out the abovementioned with just tide/dreft had me send it to Hilton laundry for about $13 a load....
other ideas: bubble wrap for souveniers....
hope this helps...if I think of anything else, I will write you
I only have to go by a non-baby adoption, but here it goes...
5 things we were glad to bring.. Didn't use the 1) antibiotics, but glad we took them anyway. 2) ziplock baggies - used them all because Ruby got motion sickness also good for snacks and dirty clothes 3) Extra gifts - gave them all away 4) a parenting/bonding adoption book - re-read it and used it as a reference a lot 5) camera w/video and laptop - used the laptop everyday to keep in touch w/family from home.
5 things w/o: 1) brought one outfit too many (brought 5), 2) light snacks - ruby didn't like most of the food I brought from the states, 3) brought too many IBU, cold medicine etc.., 4) international cell phone - used e-mail much more and much cheaper 5) too many hair accessories for Ruby.
If you have a chance, check my blog for the link on the right to waiting adoptive families and click on Graces adoption. She has some excellent excellent packing advice! She hasnt BTDT yet, but seems to be very organinzed in what she has done.
I like to pack light - I brought an extra suitcase for shopping and souveneers - filled it to the max on the way home. Loved my skirts - had two and wore them both ... casual like dress pants, my husband wore one pair of jeans and some lighter pants - easier to pack.
MUST have: baby nose sucker, wet wipes, a nice bag to carry all supplies when you are out and about, snacks for you and for handing out (we preferred to bring out own that we knew we liked), camera, video camera, one pair of comfy shoes for everything... Pack a light sweater/jacket for you adults, baby sweater for her... I washed her ONE twice... We used our umbrella - it was rainy season for us. Bring diapers with you - they are very expensive there and not good quality. Pampers made Destiny break out, so I don't suggest them... Bubble wrap is a great idea, I could have used that!
Could Have LEFT Home: too much cold medicine, baby medicine, etc. BUT I was prepared just in case.
